Damask Rose, also known as Rose of Castille, is renowned for its aroma. The Rosaceae family is often titled the 'king of flowers'. Although its exact origin is unknown, it has strong cultural links to Iran, where it has been used to produce rose water since 600 CE.

Rose oil can either be extracted as an 'otto' using carbon dioxide or 'absolute' using a solvent such as ethanol or hexane.
